Quality Pianos - American vs Asian

back to home page

This is a cached local copy (screen captures) of the "ABOUT" page from the Living Pianos web site.  Robert ESTRIN gives some interesting explanation on the difference in quality between American and Asian pianos. This information is helpful to make a wise decision when shopping for a quality instrument.

Notice that Baldwin is not mentioned among the 3 remaining American piano manufacturers.  Baldwin went bankrupt in 2000, was bought by Gibson guitar company in 2001. In Dec 2008, Gibson stopped making Baldwin pianos that were still "Made in USA." After that time, Gibson opened 2 factories in China to produce "stencil" Baldwin pianos -- not at all the same thing as a hand-made USA-built Baldwin!
